The Granite 4 family is the current generation. Granite 4.2, released in August 2026, adds a reasoning mode that can be switched on or off, aimed at agent work such as tool calling and multi-step tasks.
When to choose Granite
Granite is a strong default for scoped enterprise workflows where cost per call, governance review, and procurement terms matter more than leaderboard scores.
