How it works
Ask mode answers questions about a codebase, Plan mode designs a change before it is made, and Agent mode carries out multi-step work. Bob connects to enterprise tools through MCP, and teams can encode their standards as project rules and custom modes. Usage is measured in Bobcoins.
Deployment options
Bob is available on IBM's SaaS, in US East, Frankfurt, or Tokyo, or self-hosted on Red Hat OpenShift that your team operates. IBM made self-hosted Bob generally available in September 2026. IBM Bob replaces watsonx Code Assistant; its Z capabilities are now the IBM Bob Premium Package for Z.
